If you receive Windows Activation Error 0x80041014, please follow the steps below before contacting support.
This error can happen because of an edition mismatch, internet connection issue, Windows licensing problem, or an incorrect installation version.
1. Restart Your PC
First, restart your computer.
After restarting, try activating Windows again.
Sometimes Windows activation errors are temporary and can be fixed after a restart.
2. Check Your Internet Connection
Windows needs an active internet connection to activate online.
Please make sure:
- Your internet connection is working
- VPN is turned off
- Proxy is turned off
- Your firewall is not blocking Windows activation
- Date and time are correct on your PC
After checking this, try activation again.
3. Make Sure You Installed the Correct Windows Edition
Your key must match the Windows edition installed on your device.
For example:
- A Windows 11 Pro key works only with Windows 11 Pro
- A Windows 10 Pro key works only with Windows 10 Pro
- A Windows Home installation will not activate with a Windows Pro key
Windows 11
Go to:
Settings > System > Activation
Check the edition shown on the page.
Windows 10
Go to:
Settings > Update & Security > Activation
Check the edition shown on the page.
If the installed edition does not match the key you purchased, activation may fail.
4. Enter the Key After Windows Is Installed
We recommend entering the key after Windows is fully installed.
To activate manually:
Windows 11
Go to:
Settings > System > Activation > Change product key
Windows 10
Go to:
Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key
Enter your 25-character product key exactly as shown.
Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the key.
5. Run the Activation Troubleshooter
If the key still does not activate, run the Windows Activation Troubleshooter.
Windows 11
Go to:
Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot
Windows 10
Go to:
Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Troubleshoot
Follow the instructions shown by Windows.
6. Try Activation Through Command Prompt
If normal activation does not work, you can try activating through Command Prompt.
- Click Start
- Type cmd
- Right-click Command Prompt
- Select Run as administrator
- Type this command and press Enter:
slmgr /atoWait for the result.
If Windows still shows error 0x80041014, continue with the next steps.
7. Check Windows System Files
Corrupted Windows files can sometimes cause activation problems.
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
sfc /scannowWait until the scan is complete.
Then run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthAfter both commands finish, restart your PC and try activating again.
8. If You Are Using Windows Server
If this error appears on Windows Server, check if the system is installed in Evaluation Mode.
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
DISM /online /Get-CurrentEditionIf the result includes Eval, your system is in Evaluation Mode.
In this case, your normal Windows Server key may not activate directly until the evaluation version is converted or the correct non-evaluation ISO is installed.
